Meta will reinstate former US President Donald Trump’s personal Facebook account after a two-year suspension imposed following the January 6 insurrection on Capitol Hill.
The company said in a blog post Wednesday that it will add “new safeguards” to ensure that no “repeat infringers” violate its rules.
“In the event that Mr. Trump posts further infringing content, the content will be removed and he will be suspended for anywhere from one month to two years, depending on the severity of the infringement,” Menlo Park, California-based Meta said.
Trump was suspended on January 7, a day after the 2021 insurrection. Other social networks also banned him from their platforms, although his Twitter account was recently reinstated after Elon Musk took control of the company. He has not tweeted.
Banned by major social networks, Trump has been using Truth Social, which he launched himself after being blocked on Twitter.
