Democratic US Senator Bernie Sanders, a Jew, warned Israel on Monday that it has no “right” to use US taxpayer funds “to kill thousands of innocents” in Gaza.
“The (Joe) Biden Administration and Congress must make this clear. Israel has the right to defend itself and destroy Hamas terrorism, but it does not have the right to use US dollars to kill thousands of innocent men, women and children in Gaza” , he pointed out.
“The United States gives 3.8 billion dollars a year to Israel,” the US senator recalled in a message published on the X network, formerly Twitter.
Other voices from progressive congressmen have called on Biden to pressure Israel to agree to a ceasefire in Gaza. On October 16, congressmen such as Cori Bush, Rashida Tlaib, André Carson, Summer Lee and Delia Ramírez unsuccessfully promoted a motion to request a ceasefire, which was later joined by other representatives such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar.
