Elon Musk announced that he expects the first human tests of the brain chips developed by Neuralink to begin soon.one of his companies that has been working on this type of technology for years.
The billionaire said that The tests could start in about six monthsHowever, this is not the first time that Musk has set a date that Neuralink is unable to meet.
“I think we have submitted most of our documentation to the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) and we estimate that probably in about six months we should be able to have our first Neuralink in a human,” said the entrepreneur.
He stressed that they want to be very careful that the first implant in humans is a successso they have taken extreme precautions so that it works perfectly before implanting it in a person.
The purpose of these chips is improve the ability of people with motor or vision problems, in such a way that the chip helps them either to move or see correctly. Musk has pointed out that with these chips it is possible to help people with spinal cord problems to be able to walk again.
“Initially, we would enable someone who has almost no ability to manage their muscles and let them operate their phone faster than someone who has working hands,” Musk said.
Elon Musk acknowledged that users may initially find the advancement of this technology particularly slow. However, this is perfectly normal and once it is more developed the advances will occur much faster.
He added that he is confident that they will be able to give vision to those who were born without vision, something that until now is completely impossible.
According to Musk, the next step after the usefulness of the Neuralink chips is verified will be develop chips that allow people to control advanced electronic devices with just their brains.
Whether Elon Musk’s ambitious plans can come to fruition remains to be seen as these chips have progressed at a much slower pace than expected. Proof of this is that Musk believed that by 2020 human tests would have already begun.
