Pedro Rocha, interim president of the Spanish Football Federation, has confirmed the continuity of Luis de la Fuente as coach of the men’s national team. The substitute for the suspended Luis Rubiales assured from Monaco, where he traveled to attend the Champions League draw, that de la Fuente is “backed by all the members of the Federation.” The Spanish team has two very important matches ahead for qualification for the Euro Cup: Georgia, on September 8, and Cyprus, on the 12th. Regarding the permanence of Jorge Vilda, Rocha did not want to make statements and left the future of the women’s coach in the air, pending the meeting they will have next week.
“There is nothing decided. When we meet with him we will decide and give the relevant news. “First you have to listen and talk,” said the president of the federation about Vilda’s possible continuity. Rocha also wanted to clear up doubts about his role as interim president and denied that he had been hired by Rubiales. “I am a man of institution. Unanimously, all the territorial presidents supported me. The only thing we have to do is work as a team. Everything comes from work. We have to make a very big effort,” said Rocha, in reference to the turbulent moment the Federation is going through after the controversy unleashed by Rubiales’ non-consensual kiss with Jennifer Hermoso.
