The Ethiopian national men’s football team, affectionately known as the Walias, will depart Ethiopia today for the United States where they will participate in a pair of international friendlies.
According to details released by the Ethiopia Football Federation, the squad will first face the Guyana national team on August 2 in Washington, D.C before heading to Atlanta to take on Atlanta Rovers F.C. three days later.
Team coach Daniel Gebremariam hopes the trip will provide an opportunity for his players to gain valuable experience and exposure, possibly catching the eye of recruiters from major clubs.

Federation General Secretary Bahru Tilahun also noted that four Ethiopian players currently based abroad have been called up for the squad and will feature against Atlanta Rovers.
The Walias delegation will split into two groups for the journey, with the first traveling today and the second set to depart tomorrow, Bahiru said. The friendlies will provide a constructive challenge as the team builds towards upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures.
