Trump did something “illegal” and “dangerous”, acknowledges Mark Esper, his former defense secretary

Trump has been criticized by several high-ranking Republicans over the mishandling of classified documents taken from the White House to Mar-a-Lago, Florida.

The last to launch criticism was his former Secretary of Defense, Mark Esperwho referred to the events that led to the accusation of 37 crimes against Trump.

“People have described him as a hoarder when it comes to these types of documents. But clearly, it was unauthorized, illegal and dangerous,” Esper said on CNN.

Even Esper considered that the case of former President Trump is similar to what was done by Jack Teixeiraa member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, who is accused of posting secret documents and confidential military documents on social media.

“We have a case going on right now in Massachusetts where that young airman from the Massachusetts National Guard is being charged on similar types of accounts under the Espionage Act for taking and withholding unauthorized documents that affected our national defense,” Esper said. .

For the former Secretary of Defense, Trump’s actions could cause serious problems for the US.

“Imagine if a foreign agent, another country, discovered documents that describe the vulnerabilities of the United States or the weaknesses of the United States Military,” he said.

Esper considered that he would not trust Trump to allow him access to confidential documents, if he wins the presidency again in 2024.

“Based on his actions, again, if it’s proven to be true under the special counsel’s indictment, no,” Esper said. “I mean, it’s just an irresponsible action that puts our service members at risk, puts the security of our nation at risk.”

Esper was fired by Trump in November 2020, and last year the former defense secretary said the former president is unfit to return to the White House.
