He lawsuit between Donald Trump and E Jean Carroll didn’t end a month ago when a jury found that the former president sexually abused the writer in the 1990snow it has been the magnate who redoubled his legal fight by suing the writer for defamation.
At the time, a jury awarded Carroll $5 million in damages in May.
It was Tuesday night that Trump introduced a countersuit against the E Jean Carroll accusing her of destroying her reputation by publicly accusing him of rape in a May 10 appearance on CNN, despite a jury concluding a day earlier that he abused her inside a department store a decade earlier.
In response to that specific query, the defendant in the counterclaim ignored the jury’s finding that the counterplaintiff did not violate it and responded, ‘Oh yes, he did, oh yes, he did,’” the lawsuit says, according to NBC, who had access to the documents.
The same medium also indicated that The former president’s lawsuit also took aim at statements that Carroll he said he made it privately to Trump’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, at the end of the trial.
“Specifically, the Counterclaim Respondent stated in the Interview that emphatically told Mr Tacopina at the end of the trial that ‘he did it and you know it’, reaffirming her assertion that the Counterclaimant violated her. The Counterclaim Defendant made these statements, each knowing they were false or with reckless disregard for their truth or falsehood,” Trump’s lawsuit reads.
Through a statement, Carroll’s legal representative, Roberta Kaplan, said that Trump’s new filing in Manhattan federal court is “nothing more than their latest effort to delay accountability” by the May verdict.
“Donald Trump once again argues, against logic and facts, that he was exonerated by a jury who found that he sexually abused E. Jean Carroll,” Kaplan said.
The writer argued in her lawsuit against Trump that the former president abused her inside a luxurious department store in New York in the 90s.
And the jury found that the former president did sexually abuse her, but he did not rape her, detail that Trump’s defense has seized for now against suing Carroll.
