David DePepethe man accused of attacking the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Paul Pelosi, has pleaded innocent in a federal court in San Francisco of the federal charges against him.
DePepe, 42, is charged with attempted kidnapping of a federal official and assault on an immediate family member of a federal official.
According to official information, the offender faces a maximum of 20 years in federal prisonthree years of suspended liberty, as well as a $250,000 fine and possibly restitution.
CNN reported that the public defender of Paul Pelosi’s attacker, Angela Chuang will not seek custody release and indicated that his client is being returned to state custody and will be in the custody of the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office.
During a previous court appearance, DePape only said his name.
His next appearance in federal court will be on November 30.
Paul Pelosi, 82, was attacked in San Francisco on October 28 when he was at the family home. The assailant broke into the house shouting “Where is Nancy?”, although the Democratic congresswoman was in Washington DC at the time.
The husband of the president of the Chamber was seriously injured by the impact of a hammer and had to be taken to hospital, where he underwent an operation for a fractured skull and treated various serious injuries to his right arm and hands.
It is known that Nancy Pelosi’s husband was discharged a week after the attack and is at home surrounded by his family, recovering from the attacks at the hands of David DePepe.
