    Both the mother and the grandmother of the minor, aged six, died as a result of the earthquake.

    A five-year-old boy was rescued alive on Wednesday after surviving more than two days under the rubble of his home in the Indonesian province of West Java, severely affected by last Monday’s earthquake.

    Rescue services found the boy, identified as Azka Maulana Malik, under the ruins, which “were held in place by a cupboard, so there was room for Azka to breathe,” the boy’s uncle, Miftahudin, told the local press.

    In images circulating on social networks, you can see the moment when rescuers, surrounded by volunteers, locate the child and remove him without apparent injuries from the rubble of the destroyed house.

    Following the rescue, Azka was admitted to a Cianjur district hospital and is currently in intensive care. The minor had a bruise on the right legMiftahudin said, adding that both the boy’s mother and grandmother died in the quake.

    Another case that caught the attention of the media is that of Rohmat Kartini, who began to have contractions during the earthquake and this Wednesday he finally gave birth to her fourth child in a tent. “Maybe this earthquake brought its own blessing to my wife, because she was treated by specialist doctors who were very good,” said the woman’s husband, Solihin, quoted by the local press.

    A strong 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck West Java province at a depth of 10 km on Monday. The Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency estimates that death toll reaches 271 and that of wounded, to 2,043. Meanwhile, the number of missing persons rises to 40 and the number of displaced persons to 61,908. Regarding material damage, a total of 56,320 houses were damaged.
