The stealth plane went missing Sunday, according to the military base in Charleston, South Carolina. The pilot was able to eject “safely”.
The US army announced on Monday that it had found the remains of an F-35 stealth fighter plane that had been sought for around 24 hours on the east coast of the country, the pilot having ejected on Sunday afternoon for a still unknown reason.
The military, “in close coordination with local authorities, discovered a debris field in Williamsburg County,” South Carolina, the Joint Base Charleston military base wrote on X (ex-Twitter).
Call to citizens
The discovery of this cutting-edge military device puts an end to the all-out research carried out by the American authorities since Sunday afternoon. They had called on the inhabitants of the region to help them locate the precious wreck, causing a lot of mockery on the internet.
After the disappearance of an American stealth plane on Sunday, the army launched an appeal to citizens to help it find the trace of its combat plane.
“If you have any information that could assist our rescue teams locating the F-35, please call the Base Defense Operations Center,” the military installation wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Air base officials said they were conducting search operations, in coordination with federal aviation regulators, around two lakes north of Charleston. The F-35 fighter jets, manufactured by Lockheed Martin, cost around $80 million each.
