Jill Biden tested positive for Covid-19. Her husband, 80, is still negative but will now have to wear a mask as the G20 summit approaches.
US President Joe Biden, whose wife Jill tested positive for Covid-19, will wear a mask as a precaution even though he underwent a new test on Tuesday which came back negative, the White House announced.
The 80-year-old head of state, who also tested negative on Monday, “has no symptoms,” said presidential spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre.
The First Lady contracted Covid-19 but only has mild symptoms of the disease.
Tests to come “at regular intervals”
However, Joe Biden was with his wife on Monday and “he will wear the mask when he is indoors and surrounded by people” in accordance with current health regulations, the spokesperson added. “The president will remove his mask when sufficient distance separates him from others, indoors and outdoors.”
Karine Jean-Pierre provided no details on whether the president would wear a mask at the upcoming G20 summit in New Delhi or what the White House’s plans might be if Joe Biden tested positive before or during the trip.
“The president will obviously undergo tests at regular intervals,” she added.
Jill Biden, 72, has “only mild symptoms,” according to her office. She remains at the couple’s private residence in Delaware (east). She had already tested positive for Covid a year ago.
The United States has seen an increase in Covid cases and hospitalizations in recent weeks.
