In this audio document, the former American president evokes a document concerning a potential attack against Iran, while admitting his inability to declassify it himself.
Damning evidence against Donald Trump? As CNN reveals, federal prosecutors got their hands on an audio recording, taken during a meeting held in the summer of 2021, during which the former US president admits to keeping a classified document from the Pentagon concerning a potential attack on Iran, taken with him after leaving the White House.
As indicated by the American media, which was unable to listen to the document but which relies on the testimonies of several sources who had access to it, the recording indicates that the former head of state, again a candidate for the presidential election of 2024, is aware of having kept a classified document.
In this recording, the origin of which has not been revealed, Donald Trump also indicates that he wants to share it, while saying he is unable to declassify it himself.
“Interference”
Also according to CNN, the recording was made during a meeting held on July 20, 2021 at Donald Trump’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. In addition to two collaborators of the former president, were also present two authors who worked on the autobiography of Mark Meadows, former chief of staff of the ex-president.
Following a search of Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in August 2022, during which several hundred classified documents were seized by the FBI, the US Department of Justice named Jack Smith , an expert war crimes prosecutor to independently investigate Donald Trump.
This work includes a section on these classified documents and, in this context, Jack Smith analyzed these recordings and questioned several witnesses.
Following these revelations, the Trump camp counterattacked with CNN, and a spokesperson for the former president’s campaign indicated that these leaks are intended “to stir up tensions” around the candidate.
“The DOJ’s continued interference in the presidential election is shameful and this baseless investigation should stop wasting American taxpayers’ money on Democratic political goals,” he said.
