Six people, including a 17-year-old mother and her 6-month-old baby, died after being shot early Monday morning at a central California home and authorities are searching for at least two suspects, police officials said.
Officers responded to a report of gunshots around 3:30 a.m. at a home in the town of Goshen, east of Visalia, Tulare County police said.
“Actually, the report indicated that a person was firing shots in the area at that time, due to the number of shots being heard,” Police Chief Mike Boudreaux told reporters.
The police found two bodies in the street and a third person dead at the door of the residence, Boudreaux said.
Three more victims were found inside the house, including a man who was still alive but later died at a hospital, the police chief added.
According to Boudreaux, detectives are looking for at least two suspects. They think a gang is connected to the murders. Police carried out a narcotics-related search warrant at the home last week, Boudreaux said.
“We also believe that this was not a random act of violence. We believe it was a targeted attack on a family,” she stated.
Two of the victims, the teenage mother and her baby, were shot in the head, the police chief added.
Goshen is a semi-rural community of about 3,000 people located 35 miles (56 kilometers) southeast of Fresno in the agricultural San Joaquin Valley.
