According to the Undersecretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, this measure “dismantles the main support networks dedicated to arms trafficking, fuel theft and money laundering from drug trafficking.”
The US government sanctioned this Tuesday two senior members of the Jalisco Nueva Generacion Cartel (CJNG), Alonso Guerrero Covarrubias, aka ‘the Eight’and Javier Guerrero Covarrubiasdedicated to trafficking high-caliber firearms from the US and fuel theft in Mexico.
The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) also sanctioned another person and a Mexican entity that provide support to the CJNG by laundering illicit narcotics proceeds.
The third sanctioned is Mary Cruz Rodriguez Aguirrewhom OFAC considers an intermediary for the CJNG regional commander, Audias Flores Silva, as an organizer of the movement of drug proceeds from the US to Mexico.

Nacer Agencia Panamericana de Divisas y Centro Cambiario, Rodriguez Aguirre’s currency exchange company, was also penalized for laundering money and sending funds obtained from the sale of narcotics from the US to Mexico.
The “CJNG is a violent drug trafficking organization based in Mexico and responsible for a significant part of fentanyl trafficking and other deadly drugs into the US,” says OFAC.
For his part, the Undersecretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, Brian Nelson, stated that they will continue in “close coordination” with the Government of Mexico to combat drug trafficking.
“Today’s action disrupts the main support networks dedicated to arms trafficking, fuel theft and drug money laundering,” Nelson said.
