“In this space in which the values and principles that sustain humanity are represented as faithful defenders of a world with freedom and without censorshipa sacred principle that we must all honor, it is time to make a rigorous and vehement call for the freedom of Julian Assange”, said the president this Monday at the III Summit of Heads of State and Government between the European Union (EU) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), in Brussels, Belgium.

Assange is accused in the US, where he could receive a sentence of 175 years in prisonfor the publication of hundreds of thousands of pages of secret military documents and confidential diplomatic cables on the activities of that country in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which were disseminated through its WikiLeaks portal.
