One of them will carry a shipment of crude oil to the North American country, while the other will deliver gasoline to a company associated with Chevron.
The US oil company Chevron has sent two ships to Venezuela, one of which will carry the first cargo of Venezuelan crude to the US in almost four years, PSUV said in a statement citing international agencies.
According to reports, the Bahamian-flagged Caribbean Voyager will be in charge of taking Venezuelan crude oil to the United States in the coming days, while the UACC Eagle, flagged by the Marshall Islands, will arrive at the Jose de Venezuela port to deliver naphtha. to the company Petropias, associated with Chevron.
The shipment of the oil tankers occurs after the US Department of the Treasury, through the Office of Foreign Assets Control, granted Chevron in November the General License of Venezuela (GL) 41, which allows it to the company to resume “limited operations” in Venezuelan territory for six months.
“This authorization prevents Petroleos de Venezuela from receiving profits from Chevron’s oil sales. GL 41 authorizes activity related to Chevron’s joint ventures in Venezuela only, and does not authorize other activities with PDVSA,” the statement details, clarifying that “other sanctions and restrictions” remain in effect.
At the beginning of 2022, the oil company asked the US President Joe Biden’s Administration for a license that would allow it to take operational control of its joint ventures in Venezuela. However, Washington granted only a limited permit, which could be expanded as political negotiations between the Maduro government and the opposition progress.
