The National Police of Peru confirmed two new deaths in the region of La Libertad, in the context of protests by the population to demand the freedom and reinstatement of Pedro Castillo.
Both deaths occurred during a road blockade in that area of the Andean country. The first death occurred in the district of Chao, in the province of Viru, and the other in Simbal, Trujillo.
On Wednesday afternoon, police authorities informed local media that the fatality in Chao had been hit in the head with a blunt object, amid clashes between protesters and police.
“There is a person who has been killed, but it is not by action of the Police, nor by a firearm, he has already been admitted to the morgue, the legal necropsy has been done, death would have been by blow with a blunt objecta stone has fallen on him,” said the police authorities, quoted by La Republica.

According to RPP, the person was identified as Huaman Cabrera, 26 years old. The second victim would have been run over to death at kilometer 26 of the road leading into the sierra.
According to local media, it is Yoni Rosalino Cardenas Escobal, 51 years old. These deaths are added to the seven that were previously confirmed by the authorities: five in Andahuaylas, one in the province of Chinchero, and another in Arequipa.
The previous victims were identified as Becan Romario Quispe Garfias (18 years old), Jonathan Encino Arias Choccepuquio (18), Wilfredo Lizarme Barboza (18), Miguel Arcana (38), Cristian Alex Rojas Vasquez (19) and two minors aged 15 and 16. years.
