The EU has threatened Elon Musk with sanctions for blocking the Twitter accounts of several American journalists, the Vice President of Values and Transparency of the European Commission, Vera Jourova, declared this Friday.
“News about the blocking of journalists’ Twitter accounts is cause for concern. The EU Digital Services Act requires respect for press freedom and fundamental rights. This requirement is also reinforced by our Freedom of Information Act. Press”, wrote Jourova on her Twitter account. “Elon Musk should be aware of this. There are red lines. Twitter this week suspended the accounts of several prominent journalists from the Washington Post, CNN and the New York Timesamong others, who covered the billionaire owner of the social network.
For his part, Musk alleged that the profiles of people who had posted their real-time location were suspended, describing what they released as “basically murder coordinates.”

The news comes a day after the blocking of ElonJet, an account that tracked the location of the personal plane of the mogul, who assured that “the same rules of ‘doxing’ apply [difusion de informacion privada en Internet] to the ‘journalists’ than to the others”.
