Greece’s coast guard has arrested three suspected smugglers after they transported 51 migrants on a yacht. The 42 men, eight women and one child were taken into custody on Mykonos, the authorities said.
During their questioning, they provided precise information about the suspected smugglers and the approximately 27 meter long motor yacht “Aurora”. The Coast Guard then deployed four patrol boats and a helicopter and found the yacht, which was flying the flag of the US state of Delaware, off the island of Patmos.
Charges of illegal entry
The authorities in Greece published a corresponding video and images. The migrants clearly identified the three men as the responsible smugglers – they were arrested.
According to the Greek Coast Guard, the trio was charged with illegal entry and exit and belonging to a criminal organization. The yacht is confiscated. The coast guard had picked up more than 300 migrants in the Aegean and Ionian Seas in the past three days, Greek radio reported.
