Six people were killed in a knife attack at a kindergarten in southeast China. Three children, a teacher and two parents were among the victims, said a spokeswoman for the Lianjiang municipal government in Guangdong province. In addition, one person suffered injuries. She did not provide any further information about the victims.
As the state newspaper “China Daily” reported, citing the police, a 25-year-old man was arrested as a suspect.
Strict safety precautions
Attacks on kindergarten children or students are not uncommon in the People’s Republic. In past crimes, the perpetrators sought to take revenge on society for perceived injustices, often targeting the weakest members to do so.
That is why there have long been strict safety precautions in schools and kindergartens in China. There are guards at the entrances. Parents, relatives or other people are generally not allowed onto the school or kindergarten grounds. You can only drop off and pick up your children at the entrance.
