The Colombian president released the announcement this Sunday through his official Twitter account.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro has suspended the ceasefire with the organized paramilitary armed group known as Clan del Golfo, according to advertisement this Sunday on his official Twitter account.
“I have ordered the Public Force to reactivate all military operations against the Clan del Golfo,” reads the text. “The bilateral cessation with this illegal group is suspended. We will not allow them to continue sowing anxiety and terror in the communities,” he adds.
In a Tweet Later, the president explained that his Executive made this decision after registering a rifle attack against the Police at the hands of that organization. “As of this moment there is no ceasefire with the Clan del Golfo. The public forces must act immediately against the structures of the mafia organization,” he concluded, without giving further details.
The announcement comes six days after Petro himself denounced that this armed group is behind the damage caused to a Taraza aqueduct, located in the Bajo Cauca region, in the department of Antioquia, local media reports.
