Madagascar is making the news as the first nation to formulate a herbal remedy for treating coronavirus infection. It would be recalled many countries around the world had adopted a total lockdown as a measure to prevent the undesirable spread of coronavirus.
Lockdowns around the world had been known to produce a serious devastating effect on indigent citizens and on their national economies.
It would be recalled over 200 000 persons had lost their lives around the world because of complications resulting from covid-19 infection.

According to the African News, President Buhari last week issued an order to The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) to effect necessary bilateral procedures on how to get the herbal drugs from Madagascar into Nigeria.
Daily Trust reported that Madagascan President, Andry Rajoelina, had officially launched her locally-produced herb renowned to have the capacity to cure persons suffering from coronavirus less than a month ago.
In a previous report, Mr. Rajoelina criticized top tier countries of the world for despising Madagascar’s herbal treatment for coronavirus because it originated from an unexpected source.
Also, The Premium Times reported that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) had been issued a direction to effect necessary routines for the assessment of a plant-based cough mixture as a possible therapy for coronavirus.

The Formulation of Madagascar’s Herbal Mixture
Incidentally, each ingredient for preparing the herbal formulations are medicinal plants that are commonly used as food materials and medicines and they include garlic, onions, ginger and some other plant materials. The major twist in this mix is the composition of the formulation.
The aforementioned plants are renowned to have a documented scientific evidence of long use for the treatment of respiratory infections, with medicinal properties of mucoLytic, antitussive, expectorant, soothing, demulcent, anti-inflammatory and antiviral effects.
Corroborating Nigeria’s faith in Madagascar, The Punch Newspaper reported the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, had on Monday confirmed Nigeria was expecting the COVID Organic herbal drug, from Madagascar. The drug was widely reported to have been officially used by the Indian Ocean island nation for treating many sick persons who had been infected with covid-19.
Madagascar’s Herbal Remedy would be Subjected to Scientific Testing
Dr. Ehanire remarked that Nigeria would subject Madagascar’s corona virus herbal treatment being expected to analyses and comparison with the Nigerian strain to identify similarities, differences and to know how it works.

He said realistically, many nations in the world were desperate about finding a proven treatment for persons infected with coronavirus because this would help them to fully ease lockdown measures and reopen the economy.
The Punch Newspapers report that the medical luminary also noted Nigeria’s herbal remedies had not gone through scientific testing and could be poisonous for consumption.
He remarked all herbal medicines must go through the research cycle to ensure they are nontoxic when administered.
Buhari orders the Importation of Madagascar’s Covid Organic
The PTF chairman hinted the task force would make a new protocol on coronavirus public after revising the current guidelines.

Mustapha said the president had given permission to freight a consignment of Madagascar’s COVID-19 organic from Guinea Bissau for treatment of the disease.
He, however, said the drug would only be administered after undergoing all necessary validation processes with relevant agencies of the government as in the case of drug research and approval to guarantee safety of Nigerians.
Also, Vanguard Newspapers noted that President Buhari, on Monday, May 12, 2020 directed Nigeria’s presidential task force on COVID-19 to immediately adopt Madagascar’s newly-formulated COVID-Organics following its use for the successful treatment of many coronavirus patients.
At the daily briefing of the PTF on covid-19, Boss Mustapha disclosed that Madagascar had offered samples of covid organics to Nigeria via Guinea-Bissau and that President Buhari had faith the formulated herb would be helpful in treating coronavirus patients in Nigeria.
