The release of additional classified files came three days after the White House acknowledged the discovery of classified records of the president in a private office of his at a Washington think tank.
The US president spoke this Thursday about the discovery of new classified documents from his time as vice president in the garage of his residence in Wilmington, in the state of Delaware.
“Classified materials next to your [Chevrolet] Corvette? What were you thinking?” a reporter asked the White House occupant during a press conference.
“My Corvette is in a locked garage, okay? So it’s not like I [los archivos] were on the street,” replied the president.
“So they were in a closed garage?” the journalist asked again. “Yeah, just like my Corvette,” Biden insisted.
“But as I said earlier this week, people know that I take documents and classified material seriously,” he continued. “I also said that we are fully and completely cooperating with the Justice Department’s review. As part of that process, my attorneys inspected other places where documents from my time as vice president might be stored, and they completed the review last night,” he explained. “They discovered a small number of classified branded documents in storage areas and filing cabinets at my home and in my personal library,” she added.
The release of additional classified files comes three days after the White House acknowledged the discovery of classified Biden records in a private office of his at a Washington think tank.
The president’s team found those documents on November 2, six days before the midterm elections, but they did not make it to the press until this week.
In that context, the Justice Department is investigating whether Biden mishandled confidential records, which could be a possible crime, after he stepped down as vice president in 2017 following the end of the Barack Obama Administration.
