The El Paso government points out that the influx of migrants has grown since April 2022, with a “sudden increase” since the end of August, when a daily average of 250 people began to be counted.
More than 1,500 Latin American migrants have crossed the border from Mexico to the United States since Sunday night through the Rio Grande, local media report that describe the crossing as one of the largest registered between Ciudad Juarez and El Paso, Texas .
El Paso Matters, a outlet dedicated to the border situation, reported that the massive crossing occurred at a time when US Border Patrol facilities and non-governmental shelters in Texas are overburdened by the constant influx of migrants.
The migrants arrived in Ciudad Juarez hours before, in a caravan of 20 buses from different Latin American countries in Central and South America. In this case most came from Nicaragua, Peru and Ecuador.
The El Paso government points out that the ongoing immigration crisis dates back to 2018. However, the influx of migrants has grown since April 2022, with a “surge” since late Augustwhen a daily average of 250 people began to be counted.
In recent months, according to city reports, the entry of migrants to the US through El Paso has grown exponentially since September, with an average of 900 people per day and limits on 1,000 crosses.
“People who cross come from all over the world to escape economic devastation and extreme crime. The situation is dynamic,” El Paso authorities say.
Almost 15,000 migrants last week
According to data from El Paso, in the past week, Border Patrol agents and US Customs and Border Protection officers have registered nearly 15,000 migrants, the highest weekly total of 2022.

The situation has caused saturation in the shelters and in the Central Processing Center of the Border Patrol, which until Sunday it had detained more than 5,100 migrants within a space that can temporarily serve a maximum of 3,500.
According to El Paso Matters, between Saturday and Sunday, US immigration officials were forced to release 1,744 migrants after staying no beds available in shelters run by non-governmental organizations.
