Christine Lambrecht was already several times at the center of scandals.
German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht has officially submitted her resignation to Chancellor Olaf Scholz, reports the local agency APDwho claims to have seen the text of the request.
“The attention that the media have paid to me for months hardly makes it possible to objectively report and discuss the military, the Bundeswehr [el Ejercito aleman] and security policy decisions in the interest of the citizens of Germany,” Lambrecht writes in his formal petition.
The German tabloid Bild, which has ranked the official as one of the least popular leaders in the country, reported last week that Lambrecht planned to step down.
Lambrecht was already several times at the center of scandals. In his first interview with Bild, after taking office in 2021, admitted not knowing the military ranks of the Bundeswehr. Later she was criticized for promising 5,000 helmets as military aid to Ukraine, after the start of the Russian operation.
In addition, in November it was revealed that a photo of her son Alexander in a military helicopter, which had caused much controversy, was taken by the minister herself, which she initially refused to acknowledge. She was also criticized for her New Year’s video message of hers, recorded amid fireworks and firecrackers, in which she referred to the conflict in Ukraine.
More information, shortly.
