One of the provinces affected by the fire is Antalya, a popular tourist area. The months of July and August are considered to be the high season in this country.
Massive forest fires are affecting three Turkish provinces, prompting evacuations of residential areas and institutions. The country’s authorities announced Tuesday night that they are making efforts to extinguish the fire.
“We continue to fight forest fires in Kas, Kemer and Tashayl districts of Antalya province, as well as Sarukhanli village in Manisa province and Dulkadiroglu in Kahramanmaras province,” Turkey’s General Department of Forestry posted on Twitter.
It is worth mentioning that the province of Antalya is a popular tourist area, where many hotels are located, and the months of July and August are considered the high season in this country. Thus, in the tourist city of Kemer, next to which the burning forest can already be seen with the naked eye, some residential areas have been evacuated, as well as a hospital, report local media.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on July 24 has asked citizens to be “very careful during the month of August”, since “the forestry organization has entered a state of alert”.
According to the president, 24 planes, 100 helicopters, 10 dronesas well as some 25,000 firefighters, are participating in the extinction of forest fires. In addition, to the aid of Turkish firefighters, they have arrived two Russian Be-200 amphibious aircraft that have spilled a total volume of 87 tons of water on the burned ground. The fight against the fires is being carried out around the clock, according to information from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
