The president of Brazil received his Argentine counterpart in Planalto.
The president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, on Monday decorated his Argentine counterpart, Alberto Fernandez, with the National Order of the Southern Crossin an act held at the Planalto Palace, the government house in Brasilia.
The presidents and their officials met as part of the activities for the 200 years of bilateral relations between both nations.
In a joint statement, the Brazilian president announced the launch of a plan with “almost 100 shares” to resume a “strategic alliance” with Argentina.
“Today we adopted an ambitious action plan for the relaunch of the strategic alliance. There are almost 100 actions that give concreteness to our joint development project,” said the leader of the Workers’ Party (PT). And he added that his country is working on obtaining financing lines to encourage Argentine exports in Brazil.
“It doesn’t make sense for Brazil to lose space in the Argentine market to other countries because they offer credit and we don’t. Everyone has to win, Brazilian companies and workers and Argentine consumers,” Lula said.
For his part, Fernandez thanked the award received and highlighted the camaraderie of the Brazilian head of state: “When a friend is in trouble, he asks friends for help. And friends are always there.”
On the agenda scheduled for this Monday, June 26, Fernandez will share lunch with his Brazilian counterpart. He will then meet with the President of the Senate of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Rodrigo Pacheco, at the headquarters of the National Congress. And the official visit will culminate in the Federal Supreme Court (STF), where he will be received by the president of the organization, Rosa Weber.
