Bolivian President Luis Arce met on January 1 with a Russian delegation headed by the President of the Russian Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko. The meeting was held in Brazil on the eve of the inauguration of the country’s new president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, to which both parties had been invited.

For his part, Matvienko stated that Russia “appreciates Bolivia’s independent foreign policyand its independent course to preserve sovereignty and defend national interests.” “Both Russia and Bolivia have the same vision of the future in anticipation of a fairer multipolar world. Here our approaches are absolutely similar,” she added.
In addition, the senior official reminded Arce that Moscow had invited him to visit Russia. Matvienko expressed the hope that in 2023 the Bolivian president’s schedule would allow him an official visit and said that “it would be very important.”
