The co-creator of the video game series, Ed Boon, recently recalled that the first installment, released in 1992, was initially going to focus on the actor, but the collaboration with him did not occur at that time.
The American video game distribution and developer company Warner Bros. Games released this Friday the first video of actor Jean-Claude Van Damme in ‘Mortal Kombat 1’, the next installment of the classic video game.
“After 30 years, the man, the myth, the legend finally comes to Kombat,” says reports on the official ‘Mortal Kombat 1’ account on the X network (formerly Twitter). The actor will be available as a ‘skin’ of the character Johnny Cage.

One of the creators of the video game series, Ed Boon, recalled in a recent interview that in the early 1990s, he and his colleagues wanted to release a video game “based on Van Damme,” because the actor was at the top of fame thanks to films like ‘Bloodsport’ and ‘Universal Soldier’. However, the collaboration never came to pass and the project became what we now know as ‘Mortal Kombat’.
It is reported that the video game will be launched worldwide September 19, 2023 and will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
