Libya has been mired in internal conflict since the death of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, an event that sparked the rise of rival governments.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Wednesday that the death of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was a serious mistake that caused political instability in the region.
“It was a very serious mistake to let Gaddafi get killed. He may not have been the champion of democracy, but when they finished with him, political instability arrived in Libya and Africa“said Tajani quoted by local media.

The country has been plagued by internal conflict since the death of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, an event that led to the rise of rival governments. The eastern-based administration is supported by military commander Khalifa Hifter, while the UN-backed administration is based in the capital Tripoli.
This week there have been armed clashes in Tripoli after the arrest of the commander of the 444 Brigade, Mahmoud Hamza. On Wednesday, Reuters reported that the death toll from the clashes rose to 27while more than 100 people were injured.
Meanwhile, Libya is not the only country in the region mired in instability. At the end of July, the Nigerien defense and security forces announced the removal of the president Mohamed Bazoum, the closure of the borders and the imposition of a curfew. Later, the coup leaders announced the formation of a transitional government in the country.
