The head of the terrorist organization confirmed to the outlet that his group is holding French journalist Olivier Dubois, who was kidnapped in Mali in 2021.
The authorities of Burkina Faso have ordered this Monday the Suspension of all France 24 broadcasts in the African country after the outlet published an exclusive interview with the leader of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda of the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).

“By opening his space to the head of AQIM, French 24 not only acts as a communication agency for these terrorists, but also offers a space to legitimize terrorist actions and hate speech“, read a statement from the authorities, referring to the March 6 interview with the head of AQIM, Abu Obeida Youssef al-Aanabi.
During the interview, Al-Aanabi officially confirmed that his group is holding French journalist Olivier Duboiswho was kidnapped in Mali in April 2021 while trying to interview a local AQIM commander.
Al-Aanabi said that his group is open to negotiations and that it is up to the French authorities to take the first step towards opening talks. When asked if AQIM plans attacks in France, he stated that the group’s actions are limited to local issues in the Sahel and Africa in general.
