Among the dead are a 17-year-old teenager and two 14-year-old sisters. S-300 missiles were used in the attack.
Ten people died and more than sixty were injured in the missile attack carried out Tuesday night by Russian forces who reached a pizzeria in the center of the city of Kramatorsk, in eastern Ukraine.
Among the deceased there is a minor of 17 years and two sisters of 14according to the source, which also specifies that one of the injured is an eight-month-old baby whose life is not in danger.
Among the wounded there is also the Ukrainian writer Victoria Amelina, who suffered a severe skull fracture. Amelina was in the pizzeria at the time of the attack with the Colombian writer Hector Abad and the former High Commissioner for Peace of the Colombian presidency Sergio Jaramillo.
The attack, in which according to the authorities S-300 missiles were usedalso caused damage to 18 multi-storey buildings, 65 houses, five schools, two kindergartens, an administrative building and a recreational building, said the governor of the province, Pavlo Kyrylenko. The S-300 is a surface-to-air missile. which cannot hit ground targets with precision, but are used by Russian forces for targeted attacks on cities.
Where is Kramatorsk located?
Kramatorsk is a city close to the front line that houses the headquarters of the regional Ukrainian forces. In addition to the local population, the restaurant used to be frequented by reporters, aid workers and soldiers.
It is located in Donetsk, one of four Ukrainian provinces that Russia illegally annexed last September, but does not fully control. Russia has also occupied Crimea since 2014.
Ukrainian-held areas in regions partially occupied by Moscow were particularly hard hit by Russian shelling and are a key obstacle to resolving the war.
The Kremlin demands that kyiv recognize the annexations, but Ukraine has ruled out any talks with Russia until its troops withdraw from all occupied territories. In addition, the Ukrainian forces recently launched their long-awaited counter-offensive to try to retake the territories.
Russia, for its part, stepped up its campaign of air strikes on Ukraine while fighting continues on the front line.
Russian forces shelled another 16 settlements in the southern Zorizhia region, the Ukrainian presidential office reported. A 77-year-old civilian was killed in the frontline town of Orikhiv and three were wounded by Russian shelling in a nearby town recently retaken by kyiv, he added.
