At a highly anticipated UN General Assembly, where Volodymyr Zelensky is sitting for the first time since Russian aggression in Ukraine, the US president urged the international community to continue militarily supporting Kiev to end the “brutalization ” from the country.
All eyes were on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday where his American counterpart Joe Biden called on all countries to “stand up against Russian aggression”.
“Russia believes that the world will tire and let it brutalize Ukraine without consequences,” said Joe Biden.
“If we allow Ukraine to be dismembered, is the independence of nations still guaranteed? The answer is no,” he insisted, to the applause of the Ukrainian president and the audience.
“Solely responsible”
The Ukrainian counter-offensive is “progressing steadily” against Russian troops and will soon be supported by the arrival on the ground of American Abrams tanks, the United States assured a little earlier this Tuesday during a meeting with its allies in Germany.
In New York, Joe Biden once again explained his country’s massive support for President Volodymyr Zelensky’s army, appearing very attentive to his counterpart’s speech: “Only Russia is responsible for this war. It alone has the power to put an end to this war. It alone stands in the way of peace.”
“We must resist this blatant aggression today to deter other potential aggressors tomorrow,” he added.
A year ago, Volodymyr Zelensky was exceptionally authorized to speak via video message.
This time, he is present in person, for this annual high mass where he will speak in the evening on Tuesday, before participating in a special meeting of the Security Council on Wednesday and leaving for Washington where he will be received at the White House THURSDAY.
