LIVE – Migrants in Lampedusa: Gerald Darmanin goes to Italy this Monday

For Francois Ruffin, France can accommodate “around a thousand people”, “without talking about an invasion”

The rebellious MP Francois Ruffin considered that “if France took its share (among the 11,000 migrants who arrived last week in Lampedusa), that would be around a thousand people” welcomed on our territory.

“I think we can do it without talking about invasion or submersion!”, judged the deputy for the Somme on France Inter.

Francois Ruffin also defended “language training and then training in a profession” for the migrants that France would welcome.

Alain Juppe believes that we must “attack the problem at the root” by helping the countries of departure

Former minister and candidate for the 2017 presidential election Alain Juppe estimated this Monday on RMC-BFMTV that to fight against massive arrivals of migrants in Europe like those which took place last week on the Italian island of Lampedusa, we must “attack the problem at the root”, in the countries of departure.

“The real solution (is to) fight against inequalities and restore conditions for development,” judged the member of the Constitutional Council.

“I do not have the solution”, he nevertheless admitted, “it is a major challenge, a challenge for Europe”.

Gerald Darmanin announces he will go to Rome this afternoon

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin announced this Monday on Europe 1 that he would go “in the afternoon” to Rome, “at the request of the President of the Republic” Emmanuel Macron.

“It would be a mistake to think that migrants, because they arrive in Europe, must be distributed throughout all the countries of Europe,” argued the Minister of the Interior.

However, he explained that “if there are asylum seekers who are eligible for asylum because they are persecuted for political reasons, they are refugees and in these cases France (… ) can accept these people”.
