According to Guido Bellido, the former president “did not generate a real impact on legal assets, on the contrary, it reflected a response to political pettiness.”
The congressman of the leftist Peru Bicentennial party, Guido Bellido, announced on Monday an amnesty bill for former President Pedro Castillo, who has been deprived of his liberty since he was removed on December 7, 2022.
“We made a amnesty bill for Pedro Castillo in response to social outcry and popular support,” Bellido wrote on his official Twitter account.
The former head of state (2021-2022) is serving 18 months in pretrial detention for alleged rebellion and conspiracy after his attempt to dissolve Congress. In addition, he was sentenced to another 36 months for being the alleged leader of a criminal organization.
We drafted an AMNESTY bill for Pedro Castillo in response to social outcry and popular support. Considering that his action, in the criminal framework, did not generate a real affectation to legal assets, on the contrary, it reflected a response to political pettiness.
