Confirm several detainees for the murder of ‘El Pino’ and his family in a settling of scores between criminal groups in Veracruz

It is believed that the crime would have been perpetrated by members of a cell of the Jalisco Cartel that would be disputing the territory with the victim.

The governor of the Mexican state of Veracruz, Cuitlahuac Garcia, confirmed this Tuesday that there are already several people arrested for the murder of Fernando Perez Vega, alias ‘El Pino’, and five other people, two of them minors, during an armed attack that occurred last Sunday.

Among the fatalities, almost all members of the family of ‘El Pino’, a narco belonging to the Jalisco Nueva Generacion Cartel, was Carlos Jimenez Olmedo, who apparently worked as a teacher.

“They say he is a teacher, I have not confirmed it, and what I say: what was that person doing driving a drug dealer’s truck, to put it in all words?” the governor said during a press conference.

In this regard, he clarified that it will be the State Attorney General’s Office that determines the relationship of the deceased with the criminal group.

From the Veracruz Government Palace, Garcia explained that the crime would have been carried out by members of a cell of the Jalisco Nueva Generacion Cartel that would be disputing the territory, in the region of El Espinal and Poza Rica, with the cell of Perez Vega.

As indicated by the governor, it was an adjustment of accounts between both groups that escalated to the families. “One messes with the other’s family and the other answers in the same way,” said the governor.

The massacre occurred last Sunday on the Veracruz-Xalapa highway, near the port of Veracruz. According to local media reports, individuals wearing false military clothing chased a truck in several vehicles and, when it collided with a pole, they shot the occupants. Among the deceased is a man who was traveling in a taxi.
