    Colombian Attorney General asks the IACHR for precautionary measures in the face of the danger of an ELN attack

    The judicial official seeks to guarantee the rights to life, honor, personal integrity and dignity, while the guerrilla organization denies having made threats and attributes the species to a media strategy.

    Francisco Barbosa, Attorney General of Colombia, requested this Tuesday the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) precautionary measures for your protection and that of your familybefore an alleged attack plan against him by the National Liberation Army (ELN).

    The judicial officer seeks to be guaranteed the rights to life, honor, personal integrity and dignityas stated in a document released by the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation (FGN).

    The order includes the guarantee of the necessary security conditions to continue carrying out its functions with autonomy and independence until the end of its term, on February 12, 2024.

    “After leaving my post, I have no guarantee in Colombia that I will continue to live”declared the prosecutor Barbosa before the press.

    “In Colombia, a circumstance has arisen that affects the exercise of my position, due to the planning of a terrorist attack by the ELN, which was also dismissed by the High Commissioner for Peace, Danilo Rueda, and which has not had no type of echo or rectification from the national government“, he denounced.

    In the request of the FGN it is maintained that there are “official sources who account for this information.

    Already in a statement released on August 9, the Prosecutor’s Office maintained that three different sources, from military intelligence, the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) and the Judicial Police, “They indicated that a terrorist attack would be carried out” against the attorney general.
