The US president noted at the same time that he does not plan to apologize to Beijing for the decision to shoot down his aerostat.
The three aerial objects that the United States shot down last week do not belong to the surveillance program of China or any other country, on the contrary, they are objects of a commercial or investigative nature, US President Joe Biden declared Thursday.
“We still don’t know exactly what those three objects were, but nothing at this time suggests they were related to China’s spy balloon program or surveillance vehicles from any other country,” Trump told a news conference.
Biden pointed out that the US and Canadian militaries are looking for the remains of those three objects to learn more details. “The intelligence community’s current assessment is that all three objects are most likely balloons linked to private companies, recreational institutions, or researchers studying the weather or doing other scientific research,” she said.
So far in February, they have shot down four flying objects in North America. According to Pentagon officials, the extraordinary chain of events of this kind in peacetime is unprecedented.
As for the balloon, shot down on February 4 near the coast of the state of South Carolina after hovering over the US for several days, it has already been confirmed that it was a Chinese aircraft. However, the origin of the other three is still unclear. Last week, unidentified objects were shot down over Alaska, Canada, and Lake Huron, located on the US-Canada border.
More information, shortly.
