Russian luxury car company Aurus unveiled its ‘Komendant’ SUV in Moscow on Thursday. The launch took place at the exhibition of the so-called ‘Special Garage’, where limousines used by the country’s rulers are displayed, located in the VDNKh exhibition park in the Russian capital.
Its about first vehicle of this category developed in the country by the Russian Institute of Automobile Research (NAMI, for its acronym in Russian), and the second model of the Aurus firm, after the Senat sedan, used by President Vladimir Putin.
The company highlighted that the new vehicle is equipped with a hybrid power plant, which includes a 4.4-liter V8 gasoline engine, with a capacity of 598hp, and a 62-horsepower electric motor. It also has a nine-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system, among other features.
From elsewhere, 70% of the new model’s parts and components are Russian-made, including key parts such as the body, engine and transmission.
The ‘Komendant’, whose serial production will be carried out at the Aurus plant in the Alabuga special economic zone in the Republic of Tatarstan, it will cost 30.7 million rubles (almost 587,000 US dollars). Commercial sales of the car, which is capable of developing a speed of up to 220km/hwill start in the first quarter of 2023, assured the general director of the company, Nikolai Jodosevich, quoted by RIA Novosti.
The Aurus ‘Komendant’ is a bit larger than its counterpart the Rolls-Royce Cullinanwhich exceeds in weight by 575 kilograms, since its interior space, totally metallic, is reinforced for the installation of armor, being classified as a “vehicle of special purpose to protect the life and integrity of the driver and passengers” .
