The criminals stopped traffic on a highway in the Cumbres de Maltrata area, on the border of the states of Veracruz and Puebla.
A commando armed with rifles carried out a massive assault on motorists on Monday on the Orizaba-Esperanza highway, near Cumbres de Maltrata, on the border of the Mexican states of Veracruz and Puebla.
According to local media, the criminals stopped traffic near the top of the mountain and began to take the belongings of the occupants of the vehicles, focusing mainly on the carriers and trailers.
The situation generated panic among motorists, who tried to return in the opposite direction in order to avoid the robbery, causing a traffic jam of at least two kilometers.
The National Guard went to the place in order to apprehend the criminals. However, those affected denounced that the authorities were slow to arrive in the area. So far, no arrests or the number of people affected have been reported.
