The Ombudsman’s Office has issued an early warning demanding an approach to the territorial and structural conditions of the Amazon region.
The Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (Indepaz) of Colombia denounced this Sunday the murder of a social leader in the municipality of Leticia, in the department of Amazonas in the south of the country.
The victim was identified as William Pedraza, president of the administrative board of the Nia Nee Mechi urbanization and a member of the Amazon Oversight Network.
“This leader was assassinated by armed men, who They attacked him, firing two shots at him.the events occurred in the Ciudad Nueva neighborhood of Leticia,” the institute reported, adding that the victim was transferred to a care center where he died as a result of the severity of his injuries.

In addition, it reported that the Ombudsman’s Office has issued an early warning demanding an approximation to the territorial, population and structural conditions of the Amazon region due to “the risks of violations of the rights to life, liberty, integrity and security, and freedoms civil and political.
With this homicide they add 124 social leaders Y human rights defenders killed in Colombia so far in 2022 and a total of 1,351 murders since the signing of the Peace Agreement between the Colombian Government and the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), in September 2016.
