The arrested man had ties within the National Protection Unit, with whom he collaborated to commit crimes.
Colombian law enforcement agencies have captured Luis Fernando Sanchez Aguas, a member of the Clan del Golfo known as the alias ‘elMouse‘, who used a protection scheme in the National Protection Unit (UNP) to commit crimes.
Sanchez Aguas was arrested while carrying out extortion in a shopping center in Villavicencio, in the department of Meta, during a joint operation by the Military Gaula, the Marine Corps, the Prosecutor’s Office and other government entities.

His fall “confirms that the complaints about sophisticated forms of corruption within the entity are sadly true,” the UNP acknowledged in a statement, revealing that a significant number of its own officials participated in the criminal scheme.
The management of the entity assured that “in the fight against the criminal forms that have affected the institution there will be no mitigation, knowing that it has the support and collaboration of the vast majority of officials and workers.”
This case occurred one day after the capture in Bogota of a contractor who worked as a UNP bodyguard was reported. Geovany Barrera Torres was compromised in a robbery with firearms.
