Eure-et-Loir: doctors requisitioned for the New Year to face the triple epidemic

The prefect of the department announced on BFMTV that doctors must be requisitioned to provide care over the New Year weekend. The Order of Physicians of Eure-et-Loir denounces the measure.

The department chose to react. Faced with the influx of patients in the emergency room due to a triple epidemic of Covid, influenza and bronchiolitis, the prefect of Eure-et-Loir decided to requisition doctors for the New Year, as she confirmed this Saturday December 31 on BFMTV.

“I have these doctors (on duty) last night, tonight and tomorrow night”, assures the prefect Francoise Souliman on our antenna.

“Admittedly, I do not have all the slots filled, but the slots from 8 p.m. to midnight, which are often the most desperate people, (…) will be insured”, she specifies, indicating that four doctors are concerned.

By mobilizing these practitioners, the prefect believes that the decision should make it possible to reduce the number of emergency room arrivals. “Last evening, the doctor made thirty consultations. Of these thirty consultations, four went to the emergency room, the others were treated by this doctor, saving 26 others from embolizing the other services”, takes- her as an example.

Doctors deplore “the sending of police forces to (their) office”

The announcement was coldly received by the Order of Physicians of Eure-et-Loir. Its president Julien Cottet assures on BFMTV that, concretely, the requisition of doctors has not been put in place on the ground and that the prefect is content to be “in a balance of power because she tries to save herself the face”.

“We are sent the police forces to our homes and to our offices in front of the trainees and the patients”, he denounces.

“What we are offered is a dog handler,” he adds.

The president of the Order of Physicians of Eure-et-Loir recalls that the department suffers from a lack of practitioners.

“Are the young doctors of which I am a part responsible for the medical desert? No. (…) We are not responsible, we are there to treat people”, he believes however.

“We launched an appeal to get out of the crisis to invite them to a meeting, (…) the senators did not answer us, the deputies did not answer us”, he assures.
