With unemployment rates hovering around historic lows, the US labor market has faced in recent months an unprecedented labor shortageas employers scramble to fill critical positions.
In July of this year, 11.2 million vacancies were reported in the countrywhich is nearly 200,000 more open positions than the previous year, according to the latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
However, in some parts of the country, labor market conditions this summer did not follow the national trend: in 17 states, the number of job offers decreased from June to Julywhich is bad news for job seekers.
In addition, during the month of August, private companies drastically reduced the pace of hiring, amid the inflationary scenario and fears of an economic recession in the country. Payroll processing company ADP said private payrolls slowed from 268,000 in July to 132,000 in the following month.
The place 24/7 Wall St. made a list of US states where job offers are declining, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Among the states listed, the number of vacant positions decreased by up to 19% from the end of June 2022 until the end of July 2022.
